Preparation:

  • Prepare an evacuation plan.
  • Assemble a disaster supply kit.

When a Hurricane Watch is issued:

  • Bring objects such as lawn furniture and trash cans inside
  • Cover all windows of your home with shutters or plywood
  • Fill your car's gas tank
  • Recheck tie-downs
  • Check batteries and stock up on canned food, first aid supplies, drinking water, and medications

When a Hurricane Warning is issued:

  • Listen to the advice of local officials, and leave if told to do so
  • Be aware that the calm "eye" is deceptive; the storm is not over
  • Be alert for tornadoes
  • Stay away from floodwaters. If you come upon a flooded road, turn around and go another way.

  • Leave your manufactured home immediately and go to your pre-planned family safe place
  • Lie down in a low area with your hands covering the back of your head and neck
